Clyde “Rocky” Shaffett, our beloved father, passed away in his sleep at the age of 87 on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. Rocky was born to Tom and Christine (Bahm) Shaffett on July 26, 1937 in Loranger, LA. As a widower, he married his second wife on February 14, 1964 and they were married for 43 years until her passing in 2007. She was such a special person that she married a man with two small children, Joyce (4 years old) and Joe (18 months), adopted them and called these children her own- just as she did with a baby born to them on November 26, 1965: Jeffrey Alan. They made a life together in Portland, raising their family and active in their community with the Jaycees. They then moved to the Seattle area, where Dad continued to be active in the Jaycees. He became a JCI Senator, Eagles, Moose, Elks and American Legion holding many officer and chair positions. Rocky joined the navy at the age of 17 to serve his country. This was the start of his commitment to community service, and giving to anyone in need was where his heart was for his lifetime. He had a life long very special interest in any drag racing, including his own cars and unlimited hydroplanes. He spent two seasons as crew chief for two boats in the early 1970s: U4 Burien Lady and U4 Smyth the Smoother Mover. Rocky spent his career in the heavy equipment diesel repair industry at various large companies in Seattle, to working on building the Alaska pipeline. He was the owner of RJS Trucking, Inc and then Rocky’s Road Repair on Whidbey Island until his retirement in 2003 to travel in his motorhome with his wife Judee. Rocky is preceded in death by his first wife, Judy Hendricks, and his second wife, Judee Borcherding. He is survived by his three children, Joyce (Larry) Wood, Joseph (Lisa Anardi Hagen) Shaffett, Jeffrey (Dawn) Shaffett; his grandchildren, Kassandra Lee, Tony Wood, Brittany Schooley, Lexi Shaffett, Rachael Shaffett, Jessica Shaffett; six great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. His request to be cremated and have his ashes scattered with his beautiful wife Judee will be honored at a later date.
